Move to Greenland 2007

September 2007

The second and last re-supply ice-breaker ship came and went. There won’t be another re-supply for 10 months so there’s no chance of any supplies or new gear reaching me unless it’s flown in. Vital Energizer lithium batteries for the coming winter missed the ship. Couriers do not get mail here any quicker. Once all mail reaches Denmark nothing has priority within Greenland, despite what couriers might say. I know this because Energizer trusted DHL to get over 200 lithium batteries to me. DHL disappointed. The batteries went around the world twice before being returned to sender. Energizer didn’t give up. This DHL fiasco took them two months to perform. I’ve had similar inefficient courier experiences. UPS being the worst. Appalling.

I used my boat to motor along the coast and overnight with puppies Gus and Bigness on the shore. On our return, I suspect as a result of a little too much ice-to-hull action, my boat had been taking on water. So, seeing as these things never get better, on land I covered the boat with a tarp and raised the temperature using four MSR XGKs to fibreglass patch the damage.

Gus and Bigness had their first taste of narwhale and like it. I watched gyrfalcon Stuka dive at ravens and later watched ravens attacking late to migrate pink-footed geese on the riverbank.

I went musk-ox hunting with Martin and prepared the meat for the following year.
